Simple Ways To Copyright Written Works — watch the full video below, then keep reading for the key takeaways.
How do you copyright an unpublished work? The easiest way is to publish it as an e-book on Smashwords or Amazon KDP, even unlisted, which gives you an identifier and a first-edition publish date tied to your book; add a copyright page with your name, date, and edition, and you’re done for free in about half an hour. The second way is to print and sign your manuscript, mail it to yourself, sign for it, and keep it sealed. That works, but it’s harder to prove since envelopes can be opened and resealed, so publishing online gives you the most solid date.
