I really haven’t written anything in a long time, it’s been a little over three month’s right now. But I been wanting to get back to it and see if I can finish another book. So I got a new computer and runs a lot faster and a lot cooler mostly a lot cooler. Also decided to give voice-recognition programs a second try this time with a new Bluetooth headset I got. I went with the new Windows speech recognition at first seeing that it was part of the new windows 8.1 so it should be much better I was hoping. And in retrospect it is better than the others that I’ve used from windows so far.
However it wasn’t as good as I was hoping for it to be. So today I went back and used dragon for a while and was a bit surprised by it. I fully expected it to go a lot worse than it did but it seems as though using a head set over the remote mic does make a big difference. But the reason I was so surprised was because of all the reviews that I’ve read on both. Mainly from the most put together and detailed review that I read.
In this review it gave a side by side test of a document, telling the time it took to read each document and the amount of errors it made then the time it took to fix those errors. With this windows built in recognition was only a bit better just a few words slower and made about 3 to four more errors. Which when you think about it, might seem as though it would be a better choice for just anyone. Well I did my own test with the two. My results were a lot different, windows had about 2 to 3 word correct out of two sentences while dragon had 2 or 3 errors in the same sentence.
My conclusion to this was actually a simple one, windows version is great if you spend hours training it. My test was done with only one training session for each, program so I expected a lot of errors from each but they weren’t many from dragon and the ones from windows were big but running the correction the correct sentence was there meaning it did understand me just didn’t think it did. So what I think is that both programs work the same but in order for windows to choose the correct words it needs to be train a lot more than dragon which is able to do this with a lot less training. So for me and most people who do a lot of writing dragon is a lot better, and it is a lot easier to get it up and running.
Anyway I’m going to get back to working on my new book, Cursed Heroes VS. So far I have 1000 words on the first story and I’m looking to be done this month well end of this month. 50000 words by the end of this month so I need to get about two to three thousand words a day written this month hope I can do it. Wish me luck.
